Course Title: Public Inquiries
Who Should Attend: For all those, at whatever level, who face the possibility of having their decisions and actions put under scrutiny at a public inquiry following a major emergency. This includes not only those responding to the incident at an operational, tactical and strategic level, but also those with management responsibility in the areas of assessment, prevention and preparedness.
Aim: To provide those likely to be involved in the response to a major emergency with the experience of preparing for and appearing at a public inquiry following such an incident.

- Explain the importance of keeping accurate and complete records both before and during a major emergency
- Identify the principles to be observed in preparing a witness statement
- Describe the nature of and procedure at a public inquiry following a major emergency
- Identify the key principles of being a witness and giving evidence
- Demonstrate some of the techniques used in the process of cross-examination and how they can be countered
Pre-Requisites: We would normally expect participants on this course to have completed the Introduction to Civil Protection course, or at least be familiar with the requirements of the Civil Contingencies Act (2004).
