Course Title: Emergency Evacuation and Shelter
Planning
Who Should Attend:
This course is primarily intended for emergency planning staff in local
authorities, the emergency services and those in Local Resilience Fora and
Regional Resilience Teams with responsibility for the evacuation and
shelter capability workstream. In addition the course will be extremely
useful for transport operators and the Highways Agency in addition to other
agencies and groups which are identified as having a role in local
evacuation and shelter plans.
Aim: To establish a foundation for the
development and implementation of shelter and evacuation plans.
Objectives: By the end of this event you will be able to:

Explain the concept of risk-based shelter and evacuation planning

Describe the principles of scaleable and flexible planning
-
Identify interdependencies between resources, plans, agencies and
neighbouring areas

Describe the key issues requiring consideration at the local strategic
level
-
Describe the key implementation issues for effective shelter and
evacuation operations
-
Explain the significance of internal and external communications in
shelter and evacuation
-
Identify longer term care and resilience issues arising from shelter and
evacuation operations
Pre-requisites: We would normally expect
participants to have completed the Introduction to Civil
Protection course and also our Creating Emergency
Plans course.
