Who Should Attend: This course is intended for elected members of local authorities in the UK, particularly those members who are engaged in civil protection matters.

Objectives: By the end of this event you will be able to:
- Establish the concept of resilience and the rationale for civil protection.
- Identify the duties placed upon local authorities by the Civil Contingencies Act and critically evaluate your authority’s progress in meeting those.
- Evaluate the potential demands of Integrated Emergency Management on your local authority, before, during and after an emergency.
- Evaluate your responsibilities as an elected member, in the context of civil protection.
- Identify lessons for your own local authority by working through an emergency case study.
Director: Rob MacFarlane
This is a highly interactive course, with peer-group syndicate activities and discussion points building from a series of presentations and briefing materials. An emergency exercise tests the principles and identifies learning points to take back to your own local authority.
