Course Title:  Chief Executives: Your Role in Civil Protection

Who Should Attend: Local authority Chief Executives. Whilst deputy Chief Executives and Senior Officers are welcome to attend, they are only eligible for this course once their Principal has already attended.

Aim: To explore the executable responsibilities and strategic issues for Local Authority Chief Officers that arise out of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and the business of Integrated Emergency Management.

Objectives: By the end of this event you will be able to:

• Demonstrate an appreciation of the nature, specific demands and implications of emergencies.
• Explain the origins and implications of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
• Define the civil protection role and duties of a local authority.
• Describe the relationship between local responders and the regional and national tiers in emergency management.
• Explain the role of the Chief Executive and Chief Officers in an emergency or major incident.
• Describe the functions of a Strategic Co-ordination Group (SCG)
• Identify and prioritise the key strategic issues arising from an emergency or major incident.
