Course Title: Central Government Emergency Response Training

Who Should Attend: CGERT is available for central and regional staff with actual or potential roles in the central government response.

We design and deliver crisis and emergency management training at the very highest levels of government and, in co-operation with other departments of the Cabinet Office, deliver training for people carrying out a range of functions at the national-strategic level of crisis management.

We train the information managers, departmental advisers and delegates who work in COBR (Cabinet Office Briefing Room) and other parts of the central response machinery. Training is currently under development for COBR Chairs and for those at regional and local levels who deal directly with central government during emergencies.

We carried out a technical training needs analysis for the central response in 2006, and have since facilitated the design and delivery of much of the training, in collaboration with COBR staff from the Counter Terrorism & Crisis Management Team (CT/CM Team) and the Civil Contingencies Secretariat (CCS). The training is modular in basis, and can be varied according to the role that the attendees fulfill. The modules include a familiarisation visit to the COBR facilities, and full or half day sessions that introduce delegates to crisis management at the central and regional level. Courses are run on a regular basis. For more detail on CGERT, including a full list of dates, see: http://www.ukresilience.info/response/ukgovernment/cgert.aspx.
