Course Title: Introduction to Business Continuity Management Methodology

Who Should Attend: For emergency planning officers and business continuity managers within local authorities, emergency services and other Category 1 and 2 Responders who are required by the CCA to prepare business continuity plans.

Aim: To explain the Business Continuity Management (BCM) duty as described in CCA Guidance "Emergency Preparedness".

Objectives: By the end of this event you will be able to:

Identify the six elements of the BCM lifecycle
Describe the BCM programme elements contained within the CCA’s ‘Emergency Preparedness’ Guidelines and BS25999-1
Understand the principles for completing a Business Impact Analysis
Describe the possible contents of a Business Continuity Plan
Describe how BCM can be embedded into an organisation (to ensure ongoing relevance)
Understand the different possible methods of exercising, maintaining and reviewing BCM capabilities within an organisation

Pre-requisites: Ideally, participants should have completed our Introduction to Civil Protection course as knowledge of the Civil Contingencies Act (2004) will be assumed.

Progression: Participants with a good understanding of the BCM lifecycle can attend the Developing and Embedding your BCM arrangements course. This looks more in-depth at the BCM lifecycle and focuses on how to sell BCM to stakeholders.
