New National Occupational Standards for Civil Contingencies

The Civil Contingencies National Occupational Standards (NOS) were approved on 6th November and Skills for Justice will shortly be introducing these new NOS at the forthcoming Emergency Services Show 2008, 19-20 November, Stoneleigh Park.

Every year, across the UK, the focus on emergency planning, response and recovery intensifies. As a consequence, the level of expertise required of teams across local and national government, the emergency services, commercial organisations, utilities and the voluntary sector, continue to rise. More is expected of emergency services and the people who work in these areas.

The Civil Contingencies NOS fully support integrated and partnership working. They encourage individuals to work in co-operation with other agencies and to manage and share information to support civil protection decision making.

As a result of the work, 18 new NOS have been developed to describe the core functions for preparing for, responding to and assisting recovery from emergencies.
