Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO)

The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) is an independent, professionally led strategic body. In the public interest and, in equal and active partnership with Government and the Association of Police Authorities, ACPO leads and coordinates the direction and development of the police service in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In times of national need ACPO, on behalf of all chief officers, coordinates the strategic policing response.

The Chief Fire Officers' Association is the foremost official organisation for principal fire officers in the UK. The Chief Fire Officers' Association was formed in 1974 following local government re-organisation to allow Principal Fire Officers the ability to meet and discuss fire related or government influenced matters, with the aim of reaching a combined understanding of what each UK Fire Brigade needed to improve operations and training within their Service.

The Association represents all 34 NHS ambulance services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The public ambulance of Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar bring our total membership to 38. The Association is the leading out-of-hospital emergency care organisation, offering corporate membership to these public sector ambulance services. This site offers information on our work with member services as well as offering a valuable resource for those interested in pursuing a career in the ambulance sector.

This Agency is responsible throughout the UK for implementing the Government’s maritime safety policy. That includes co-ordinating search and rescue at sea through Her Majesty’s Coastguard, and checking that ships meet UK and international safety rules. We work to prevent the loss of lives at the coast and at sea, to ensure that ships are safe, and to prevent coastal pollution Safer Lives, Safer Ships, Cleaner Seas. We are putting increasing effort into prevention work and a measure of our success is when accidents do not happen, or where we intervene to minimise their impact.
