Course Title: Managing High Impact Weather
in conjunction with the Met Office 

Who Should Attend: Category 1 and 2 Responders and those who operate at Gold and Silver Command, Government Offices and Agencies and staff who work within Resilience Teams.

Aim: To raise the awareness of emergency planners about the effects of severe weather and help them to make more informed decisions

Objectives: By the end of this event you will be able to:

• Identify the effects weather has on the roles and responsibilities of emergency planners
• Explain how improved weather knowledge can aid the management of any emergency situation
• Interpret the UK’s weather and identify a situation likely to produce severe weather
• Outline how a forecast is produced, its limitations and how severe weather is managed
• Interpret Met Office products, especially impact forecasts, severe weather forecasts and weather and health predictions
• Describe the impacts of a given weather situation and how it effects emergency planning decisions
• Describe the impacts and implications of climate change on emergency planning
• State how forecasts can help mitigate severe weather and help clear up operations following an incident
• Inform the risk assessment process as outlined in the CCA in the context of severe weather
